This exciting group of Taos County weavers have a deep mix of experiences on the loom and will be building peer mentorship while serving as "beta testers" of our Rio Grande weaving curriculum. Throughout, weavers will explore their own artistic missions from revival reproduction to experimental weaving and symbolic tapestries.

The initial cohort will run from August 2024 – January 2025
The cohort will explore Rio Grande weaving traditions
Cohort members live in Taos County and bring a deep mix of experiences on the loom
Cohort members will receive no-cost access to weaving patterns and digital curriculum
Cohort members will be "beta testers" of these patterns and curriculum — testing them out and providing feedback on their experience
Cohort members will create their own original weavings using the patterns and curriculum
Cohort members will provide peer mentorship with each other and build community with Taos County weavers
Cohort members will have opportunities to showcase and sell their weavings in gallery exhibition
The weaving patterns will explore Rio Grande weaving traditions — from Rio Grande and Saltillo to Vallero and Chimayó
The weaving curriculum will consist largely of digital & printed curriculum — including written instructions, illustrative sketches, and video tutorials
There will also be occasional in-person demonstrations
The cohort will have the opportunity to showcase and sell their work at many Taos venues including the Taos Wools Festival, the Encore Gallery, and Hacienda de los Martinez
We will also host additional fiber arts gatherings — let us know your ideas!
We're excited to share that we will have access to studio space and looms in the weaving room at the historic Hacienda de los Martinez museum!
Here we will host pop-up demonstrations and group tutorials
As space allows, members can apply to use a dedicated loom in the studio space

We also hope to find bulk / wholesale discounts for warp and weft yarns
Over time, we plan to equip tour weaving room at Martinez Hacienda with donated / loaned weaving tools, looms, and yarn
Funding for our program is generously provided by a Community Arts Fellowship from Taos Center for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts
Studio space for our weavers is generously provided by La Hacienda de los Martinez Museum
