Steve Lennert was born and raised near San Francisco. He attended School at the University of Colordo Boulder, earning a Bachelor's degree in in anthropology 1979. He then studied at San Francisco State University and earnd his MBA 1981.
Before moving to New Mexico, Steve lived in Oregon. While there, he owned a quilting & fabric store for many years in the Portland area. He has been very involved in the quilting industry — teaching, designing and publishing patterns, and judging quilt shows.
After retirement in 2016, he began weaving. He studied at the Damascus Fiber Arts School for 2 years, then — after moving to New Mexico — studied Rio Grande weaving with teachers Heather Howard, Molly Manzanares, and Emily Trujillo. He also has several years experience in Navajo-style weaving, and has taken a class in European tapestry weaving.
He hopes that our work with the Futuros Ancestral Weaving Cohorts will "provide much needed historical and cultural awareness to communities of Northern New Mexico."
Steve lives in Taos, New Mexico with his husband, David, and his 2 dogs.
