Emerging Weavers Cohort Member
Ranchos de Taos, New Mexico
Flor Serna grew up in Los Ranchos de Albuquerque, New Mexico and now lives and works in Taos. She works as the coordinator for the De La Tierra a La Cosecha Coalition in Taos — a collaboration between Alianza Agri-Cultura de Taos, the Taos County Economic Development Corporation, the Taos Land Trust, and the Taos Valley Acequia Association.
In her role, she manages projects, events, and funding opportunities for local farmers that address land and water conservation, sustainable agriculture and locally-focused economic development.
The goals of De la Tierra are to keep family lands intact and undeveloped, create a livable income from farms and ranches, encourage the production of local food for local consumption, and help sustain unique traditions and cultural diversity.
Flor developed a strong interest in both the art and culture of weaving after having met weavers in the community and having learned about the holistic nature of the art inextricably linked to the land. She is passionate about preserving and protecting New Mexican cultural traditions.
Flor is also a musician and techie, and loves the intersection of the two. She is interested in Rio Grande weaving because her ancestors have lived in New Mexico along the Rio Grande for over nine generations, and because she is interested in strengthening her relationship to the land that she lives on.
